THE UNDERCOVER VERDICT
…1991 Masters champion Ian Woosnam rates Aberdovey as one of his favourite courses. Our four-ball were unanimously in agreement with Woosie and gave Aberdovey, flanked by breathtaking Snowdonia National Park scenery on one side and the Irish Sea and striking dunesland on the other, the resounding thumbs up.
Sure, the breathtaking scenery and views blew them away at times… but not as much as the course and club itself – although they did concede that Aberdovey’s early holes proved to be tough nuts
to crack. Nevertheless, the quartet enjoyed a memorable day out and seriously struggled to find fault with both the layout and the off-course facilities. In their view, this was the closest you can possibly get to the perfect golf day, particularly when factoring in the very modest green fee for such a quality links.
“It has got to be the bargain of the season,” said Charles. “If I were to leave my club to join another, Aberdovey would be the first to get my letter of application!”

“The favourite course of the doyen of golf writers, Bernard Darwin, and I can see what he loved about it; charm and challenge in equal measure.”
“An easy-walking, tranquil oasis of top-quality golf and charm, with plenty to engage and interest all keen golfers.”
We are delighted to be mentioned by Ian Woosnam in the latest edition of Today’s Golfer magazine.
Ian discusses his new role as a course architect and his excitement at having some involvement at Aberdovey. “It’s exciting for me as it is my first one in Wales and I’m really proud to make my mark a little bit”, he says.
He continues “I’ve got a special affinity with Aberdovey; I played there a lot as a youngster because it was so good in winter, and I always loved it as a course. So I am so pleased and proud that RAW Golf Design, the design company I have with my friend and former Tour player DJ Russell, have been asked to advise the club on the course.”
We are pleased to have his involvement and look forward to working with Ian and the rest of the team going forward.
