Tri-Golf was launched by the Golf Foundation in 2000 to encourage youngsters to 'have a go' at the game of golf. It is a mini version of golf specifically designed for use by young children in infant, primary and junior schools. It uses specially adapted equipment and games designed to make an introduction to the game of golf fun. The equipment includes chippers with over-sized club heads, putters, and a variety of over-sized foam balls. Tri-Golf is played indoors or outdoors either at the school or Club premises.
During 2009 and 2010 the Club has been working with Dragon Sports, a Sports Council for Wales initiative, funded by the National Lottery, designed to offer opportunities in different areas of sports. Aberdovey has three Tri-Golf Activators (Meurig Lumley, Clive Roberts and Val Franklin) in addition to our PGA Professional, Joe Davies.

Meurig and Clive, with the involvement of local school teachers, run several Tri-golf sessions with different primary schools in the area. These are followed by an introductory visit to the Club for the youngsters to see our practice facilities and the Wii room. This is followed by a Wee Wonders style competition where the aim is to see how far the youngsters can progress on the course in 36 shots. These sessions demonstrate how well the Tri-golf system works providing a grounding in the fundamentals of golf in a fun way which will then enable the youngsters to progress to the next level.
As well as Tri-Golf Thursdays the Club runs Wee Wednesdays (based on the Wee Wonders format above); Fun Fridays (chipping and putting practice) and Scoring Sundays where Club Professional Joe Davies holds coaching sessions. Playing and non-playing parental involvement in all the sessions is actively encouraged.
It is intended that the Junior golf development programme will expand in 2011.
